A FESTIVAL REPRESENTING THE BOND BETWEEN BROTHER & SISTERS

Today I'm going to write about a  famous festival which is one of my favourite Indian festivals. They celebrated this festival last week. This festival is famous as "Raksha bandhan". This is a very important and sacred festival of Hindus in India. It is celebrated every year on the full moon day of August month. Indian people named this month as Shravan month. So this festival is also called "Shravani festival". This festival is a special occasion for brothers and sisters. Sister's and brother's love-trust which means the sacred relationship of brother-sister takes a special place in this festival.

"Rakhi" takes a special place in this festival. Actually according to my knowledge it is like the sign of Raksha Bandhan festival. Rakhi is like a thread which is worn on the wrist. Specially sisters make beautiful Rakhis using thread, pearls and beats. Other than that, different types of beautiful and attractive Rakhis are seen in the markets. Nowadays sisters send Rakhis to their brothers who are living far from them by the post.

I'm specially attracted to the rituals that Hindu sisters do towards their brothers. Rakshabandhan comes every year to highlight the sacred love and relationship of brother and sister. So every year I'm mostly waiting to see the video clips which are related to this Raksha Bandhan festival.

TOURIST INDUSTRY IN SRI LANKA

Tourist industry now has become a lucrative business in most parts of the island. On account of the scenic beauty and the cultural significance, Sri Lanka has become one of the favourite destinations for tourists from all over the world.

Tourists visit Sri Lanka to spend a holiday, to worship religious places, for business works, for education, for visiting relations, for research works etc. But Sri Lanka is well recognized as a holiday spot with all its glory, beauty of the hill country, golden beaches, world heritage sites, wildlife, cultural festivals, delicious dishes as well as friendly people. Temple of tooth relic, Sigiriya, Yala national park, Sinharaja forest are some of the cynosure which attracted thousands of tourists all over the globe. Thus tourists now have identified the uniqueness of Sri Lanka as a paradise.

There are economical, cultural, political and social effects of tourism. Tourist industry greatly influences the development of the country. Actually it is a great mode of income to a developing country like Sri Lanka. The tourist industry in a country is just like a hearth in a house. Careful control of its fire helps to cook dishes as well as provides warmth at the times of need. But if we fail to control it, it would result in dangerous consequences and would burn the entire house even. Tourist industry should be developed systematically. Therefore we should make tourism as a blessing for the wonder of Asia.

A GIFT FROM NATURE

Today I'm going to write about a valuable creation that belongs to nature. Water is a valuable gift of nature. All living beings and plants need water to live and to survive. We require water for different purposes. Of course, we can live for a few days without food. But we can't live without water.

We need water for day-to-day purposes such as bathing, cooking, washing and etc. In addition, water is a must for agricultural purposes. We won't get any food if there is no water. But it's sad to say, people don't use water sparingly. People waste water. In urban areas, we can see people keeping water taps open. Other than that, sometimes people don't close the water taps properly. Humans also pollute water in many ways. Insecticides, weedicides and fertilizers used in farming are some examples of ways of water pollution. Some factories release waste materials and chemicals into waterways. People dump garbage into waterways. We should stop water pollution. We can do this by helping to keep our sources of water clean.

If we stop throwing waste into lakes, rivers and seas they will be clean and beautiful forever. In agriculture we should not overuse chemicals. Another way of preventing water pollution is to build cleaning treatment plants in factories. All the governments in the world should impose several laws to protect the waterways. People who pollute waterways should be punished severely. On the other hand, public awareness programmes should be organized to teach the public about the value of water. Water percentage in the whole world is now becoming less because of these reasons day-by-day. So I think from today onwards we have to pay our attention to protect water resources.

SURPRISE !

The alarm rings rapidly. It was a rainy day. So, I turned off the alarm and went back to sleep. I slept until my sister came to my room and hit me. "Ouch!" I opened my eyes. "Oh! Nangi! What are you doing in my room?" I shouted. She smiled and said, "Do you know what the time is now?" "Ayyo! go away nangi. I want to sleep more" I shouted to my sister. "Hey Akka, it's 9 o'clock. Hurry up, Hurry up, Don't be so lazy. Get up right now akka". "Alright!, just give me 5 more minutes. Then I'll get up". I closed my eyes and slept. Short while ago my sister came and started to hit me. Due to sudden rage I took my pillow and began to hit her. She didn't take the steps back. She also took a pillow and gave me returned shots.

Oh wait, wait. Now stop it akka. I'm tired now" She said with a smiley face. "Akka can't you remember the speciality of today?" She said. Suddenly I woke up and tried to remember it. "Special? No, I can't remember nangi". Actually I couldn't remember about the day. "Hey it's your birthday today, akka!" she said. "What! Really? My Birthday! I" I asked in surprise. "Of course," she said it very happily. My sister asked me to close my eyes and turn the other side. I did as she told me. Then she give me a signal to turn back. I turned back to see, my sister holding a teddy bear. My mother and father also there with my sister. They made a beautiful birthday cake to me as well. "Amma, do you know? I'm going to give this teddy bear for my dearest

Akka's birthday." She said. I was full of happiness and I was really surprised on that day. Still I can remember the feeling that I felt on that moment.
